How many members do I need to join?

There is no minimum number of Opinion Donors you need. As soon as you have one Opinion Donor registered they will receive survey invitations and you can start generating revenue. The more members of course, the higher your return.

How does the model translate to revenue?

Opinionate delivers survey invitations via email, online via the Opinion Donation portal, and via smart phone notification (for those who have downloaded 'Opinion App'). Surveys are sourced from our technology partner Cint. We deliver surveys based on any profiling you have provided and according to rules set by Your Cause including frequency, length, topics, etc. Surveys originate from our select network of market research partners who are interested in consumer opinions. Surveys topics have no relation to your cause unless explicitly stated. We pay direct revenue to You based on the length of the survey completed.

How do I know my supporters won’t be spammed?

The Opinionate model works based on us partnering with not-for-profits for access to Opinion Donors. Without our partners we do not have a business. For this reason in addition to legal requirements around privacy and data protection (e.g. GDPR), it is in our interest to be transparent and trustworthy in everything we do.

Do I have control over what my supporters may be exposed to?

Yes. You provide us with guidelines around survey topics, survey length, participation frequency and messaging when you register with Opinionate. You can update and change your preferences at any time by contacting our support team. By default we exclude topics such as gambling, tobacco and alcohol. This in addition to survey quality checks that exclude surveys that are offensive, culturally sensitive, illegal, collect personal data, or contain marketing material. In addition you can select from a further 20 topis that can also be excluded. Survey topics are excluded automatically by the system, in addition to each survey being reviewed and monitored manually through a documented quality assurance process.

Yes.The Opinionate platform and our partners are fully compliant with the Australian Privacy Principles, European GDPR and AMSRO guidelines for ethical market research.All survey responses are anonymous and collected in aggregate. We don’t share personal information with third parties. We do not send unsolicited emails. We do not undertake any form of marketing.

I'm worried about cannibalising my existing donor base.

We understand.Opinionate is a voluntary opt-in fundraising platform. Those who are interested simply register with an understanding how it works. We only send Opinion Donation opportunities to those who have agreed to participate.During the on-boarding process we recommend a recruitment strategy that avoids actively promoting Opinion Donation to any segment of your donor base that may in your view be detrimentally effected.The strength of the Opinionate platform is that it provides a new fundraising option which requires no financial outlay from your supporters, simply a small micro donation of time when it suits their lifestyle. This concept means it is an ideal way for inactive supporters to get involved.

What are the operatonal implications?

None.Once the platform is setup and you have registered Opinion Donors onboard, we do all the work delivering surveys, responding to queries and generating revenue for you.Your only obligation is to expose the Opinion Donation opportunity to your supporters as another way to get involved. You can do as little or as much as you want.

What are the benefits?

There are many benefits, it is worth talking to us to cover them all. We deliver direct revenue to you every month (assuming your Opinion Donors have been active). We deliver indirect revenue by driving traffic to your website after they have donated their opinions. On your instruction we can expose them your other fundraising campaigns. We may drive new Opinion Donors to you via our Fundraising Directory. We share contact details of these new supporters. We build a database of profiling around your Opinion Donors and can share this aggregated data with you for comparison with industry norms. You can conduct your own research on your Opinion Donor audience. Unlike most other donation platforms, Opinion Donation does not required donation of money, it is therefore a perfect way to engaged lapsed supporters as well as supporters that may not feel like they can afford to donate in the traditional ways.

How do I unbsubscribe?

You can unsubscribe at any time by logging into your Opinion Donor portal and updating your Settings or by clicking he unsubscribe option at the bottom of a survey invitation email.

How can I access the data you hold about me?

Please email us at support@opinionate.com.au and put "Attention Privacy Officer" in the subject line.

End status: "Thank you - The survey is complete and you have raised funds!"

Congratulations. You have raised the amount that was listed in the invitation or on a subsequent 'start survey' screen. The funds will be paid to your charity in line with the agreement in place between Opinionate and your charity following the end of the field period for this survey. You do not need to do anything for this payment to take place.

End status: "Thanks - It looks like survey has enough responses."

Market researchers often set quotas (usually aligning with nationally representative numbers) for different demographics, once that quota limit has been reached the surveys do not allow anyone else from that demographic in. Demographics could be as simple as age, gender or region but can also include something like a level of awareness of a product, or service or a combination of them all. For that reason it is difficult for us to know if you will get into the survey before you start it - but we do try our hard. To decrease the chance of not getting into a survey try updating your Opinion Donor profile. In some cases, you may still have still raised a small amount for your charity. Every little bit helps.

End status: "Thanks - It looks like survey has closed early."

Market researchers set quotas on the number of responses they need for a survey and will close the survey as soon as those numbers are achieved because they don't wan to have to pay for extras. Occasionally they will close a survey early for other reasons as well. If you are responding to the survey from an email invitation, it could be that the number of responses required was achieved between the time we sent the invitation and the time you clicked on the link. If you are responding to a survey opportunity listed on-demand in the platform it could be that the survey is live but it is currently paused while a change is being made. In some cases, you may still have still raised a small amount for your charity. Every little bit helps.

End status: "Oops - It looks like something went wrong."

You might have been part way through a survey or just started one, and suddenly you get this message. We know it can be frustrating! Any number of things could have gone wrong, it could have been on our end or it could have been something at your end, it is hard to tell. We have provided some examples below. The technology may have dropped out (internet connection for example) and it was not possible to pick-up from where you left off. Usually this means none of your response got recorded by the research agency or by us - which is frustrating for everyone. There may have been a red-herring question in the survey, e.g., you may have been asked the same question twice for example and you gave different responses, or it could have been a question that was a little more advanced. Researchers put these questions in to make sure you are concentrating. The system can pick up 'straight lining'. This is where a respondent answers 'A' to every question for example, obviously not reading the questions. The system might detect some other activity or indicator that it thinks is suspicious. It is not always correct unfortunately. Please don't take this to heart. Your participation is valuable and we will try to minimse these sorts of issues.

How do I access surveys?

We deliver survey invitations to you via email (you can adjust the frequency by updating the settings in your Opinion Donor portal), on-demand through the Opinion Donation portal (log in using your email and password and select 'surveys'), and via smart phone notification (for those who have downloaded 'Opinion App' from the relevant App store). We deliver surveys based on any profiling you have provided and rules set by your chosen cause, including frequency, length, topics, etc.

How can I raise even more funds / take more surveys?

We deliver survey invitations to you via email and you can adjust the frequency by updating the settings in your Opinion Donor portal. You can also access opportunities on-demand through the Opinion Donation portal (log in using your email and password and select 'Surveys'). Another way to access more opportunities is to download 'Opinion App' for your smartphone (register with the email address linked to your Opinion Donor account) and receive notifications whenever there are survey opportunities available.

Confirm your email (watch your inbox and junkmail)

Immediately after registering you will receive a welcome email asking you to confirm your email address. The welcome email should arrive within minutes, so keep an eye on your junk mail for emails from either World Vision Australia or Opinionate.

Update your safe sender list

To make sure survey invitations don’t go into your junk mail, add donate-opinions@opinionate.com.au to your address book. If you find communication from us in your junk mail, ‘right-click’ and select ‘not junk’.

Make surveys more relevant*

To ensure surveys are as relevant as possible click on the 'Profile' tab once you have confirmed your email, and complete at least the Household profiling questions. If you don’t have kids for example, there is little point in us sending you surveys about kids!

There is no need complete all 100+ profiling questions and 10+ topics, just the Household are enough for us to work with initially. It will improve your Opinion Donor experience if you want to complete them all, but it is completely optional.

Refer to the 'Opinion Donor FAQs' on the other tab for details about how we handle personal data. In summary, Opinionate collects profiling information simply to help send suitable surveys and does not share this information in an identifiable form with World Vision Australia or third parties.

How do you handle my personal data?

We use information you provide on sign-up and any profiling information you provide to help target suitable surveys and manage the platform.

We may share your first name and email with World Vision Australia so they can let you know the impact your opinion donations are having as an Opinion Donor. We do not share your personal data with other third-parties.

Information you provide in a survey is de-identified so you can not be identified by the researcher conducting the survey or their end client, in accordance with the principles of market and social research.

Neither Opinionate or World Vision Australia have access to responses you give in surveys unless specifically stated in the survey invitation.

How long is a typical survey?

Surveys can be anywhere from one to fifteen minutes in length, depending on the length set-up by World Vision Australia when registering with Opinionate.

We display the estimated survey length in each survey invitation. You can choose to participate, or if the survey appears too long you can simply ignore the invitation (or decline it so you don't receive a reminder).

The length of each survey is based on the estimated time it would take an average person to answer. Some people might take less time, others may take more depending on your responses.

A survey session might take a little longer than the displayed survey length due to the routing process prior to entering the survey which is in place to make sure the survey is relevant to your profile.

What topics are covered in the surveys?

Surveys can be on any topic except gaming, alcohol and tobacco which we reject automatically and other topics excluded by World Vision Australia when registering with Opinionate.

Surveys come from market research agencies who represent global brands, service providers and government agencies and have no relation to World Vision Australia unless expressly stated in the survey invitation.

How often will I receive survey invitations?

The frequency is set by World Vision Australia when setting up the Opinionate platform, but generally survey opportunities are restricted to two per month.

You can change the frequency yourself by logging into your Opinion Donation portal and going to the Settings options.

Who is Opinionate?

Opinionate is an Australian company, based in Sydney.

Our vision is for everyone to be able to support their chosen cause irrespective of financial, physical, geographical and cultural barriers. We are the pioneers of micro-time-donation.

Opinionate is a member of the Fundraising Institute of Australia and holds fundraising approval from all not-for-profits listed on this website.

We generate our revenue from a small fee paid to us by market research agencies for every survey completed by Opinion Donors. This fee has already been deducted from the funds available to be raised that is displayed to Opinion Donors in survey invitations. Of all money received by Opinionate under this model, our not-for-profit partners receive approximately 80% and Opinionate receives 20%.
